Woman of Steel Triathlon

On August 7th, TriUtah sponsored the first annual 3-3-1 Woman of Steel Triathlon at the Life Time Fitness Center. There were 3 different races (the Woman of Steel was one of them), 3 events, 1 day. This was my 3rd tri but my first time in a pool instead of open water. It was crazy! We lined up in our time slots for the swim and it should have been pretty smooth except that it ended up getting backed up and we were crawling over each other for a few laps. I thought I was going to die at one point! Luckily, it was a short swim of 250 meters (6 laps), then on to a 13 mile bike, and 3 mile run. The bike, fortunately, is my strongest event and where I get to redeem myself. Blake told me to keep track of my "kills" and I was amazed as I passed my 35th person on the last mile of the race! This race was so perfect because Blake and the kids were there to see me through every transition of the race. I almost cried when I saw them all cheering me on as I approached the finish line. Kayla's so cute - she even tried to follow me Blake said. After recouping and getting a massage, we were ready to leave. Blake went with the kids to get the car and I went to see the results. I saw that I finished in 1:25:10, that was all I cared about - I hit my goal. As I was walking away to find Blake, I heard them announce the winners of the 30-34 age group. When I heard them call my name for 3rd place, I turned around and said "that's me!" I couldn't help but start crying as I ran to the podium trying to search for Blake! The announcer even tried calling out Blake's name. As I got back to the car I was in tears and still in shock, Blake asked why I was crying. When I told him, he was so excited and couldn't believe that he missed it because they were sitting in the car. It was an incredible day! I am so happy that my best friends and supporters were there to share it with me!
